The Story Continues: Final Fantasy III

knightI’m still plugging away at this one.  With life and other games getting in the way I’m finding it hard to commit any decent amount of time to this one.  I’m enjoying it.  I’ve just made my Warrior and Red Mage both Knights.  My Black Mage is still going strong, and my White Mage is now a Scholar due to the next boss I’m going to be facing.

I’m roughly 10 hours in.  Which means, as previously stated, I haven’t gotten too much farther.  I think my goal of having the first 6 finished by the end of August is ruined.  Stupid sleep getting in the way of gaming time!

I am finding I have to run around grinding for leaves a bit more in this one than in the previous 2, but that’s okay.  It still hasn’t been too bad.

This is all for now.  As always, stay tuned.  There is always more to come!

Meet David & Cassadi (no not the real us)

This is the first post of what might be many to come involving Sims 3.  I’m introducing you, today, to the Sim versions of me and the significant other.  My poor Sim does have the unfortunate problem of being knocked up… but that’s apparently what happens when you go “Whoohoo” in the bedtime place.  lol!  This first picture you see is of our glorious brand spanking new built house.  Yes, I used the cheat for lots of money.  No, I will not be using it for any other Sims I may create.  I just thought that my Sim should be able to live in the lap of luxury that I cannot.  More images behind the cut.  I was nice and made them thumbnails so as to not take forever to load.

Overloaded

overloadThe past few days I’ve been feeling a little overloaded with gaming information and games that I’m currently playing.  With E3 finally over there is plenty to catch up on.  To clarify, I will not be posting an entry about E3, you can find them everywhere.  It was a lot of information, though not anything I’m really finding myself wetting my pants over.  I’ve decided I’m trying to play too many games at once.  Between my Final Fantasy mission and Puzzle Quest I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed, and now I’ve added Sims 3 to the mix.  Even before Sims 3 I had Henry Hatsworth and Rhythm Heaven to play as well.  It’s been quite some time since I’ve felt like I’ve had too many games to play and not enough time to play them.

Yesterday I woke up and instantly wanted to play Sims 3, but I knew deep down that I needed to make some progress in Final Fantasy 3 before I sat my buttocks in front of the monitor to spend hours upon hours living the lives of my Sims.  Upon this realization I’ve decided I need some sort of schedule for my gaming.  I have previous entries about not being able to manage time for gaming around real life.  I’ve finally found a happy place for this.  Now I’m having a hard time dividing what time I do have for gaming between games.  It always seems I’m searching for more time, but I’m unwilling to give up my beautiful eight or nine hours of sleep a night for this quest.  The boyfriend has become addicted to Puzzle Quest so on the nights he comes over I’ll usually find myself playing FF3, but now I have Sims 3 to entertain me as well.  How do I decide which to play?  This question may take a week or two to really get the answer to.  This week is going to be the test.  I’ll play Sims 3 tonight, and possibly tomorrow night.  Wednesday night will be FF3.  Thursday night is typically board games with friends, but a few of them will be away on vacation so I’ll have Thursday night for whatever gaming I feel like doing.  Friday and the remainder of the weekend will probably be a little of both.  Puzzle Quest and the others will most likely be put aside until my Final Fantasy quest has been completed.  The sooner it is finished, the sooner I can play more!

On a not very related note, you can look forward to Sims 3 updates about my families with tons of pictures!  :D  I’m hoping to have the first one up before the end of the week!

And as always, stay tuned!

A New Beginning: Final Fantasy III

ff3 Now that Final Fantasy II is finally over I can focus on the next in the series.  Final Fantasy III of course!  :P  I’m playing the DS version and really enjoying the 3D graphics and additional features not previously released.  I’m not really familiar with the original for this one so I can’t really compare, but I am enjoying the experience.  I’m about 8 hours in after a week and a half of playing.  Which is actually really good for me right now seeing as how real life has been interfering more than normal.  -glares at real life-

I find it interesting that I’ve had to use spells like mini and toad to actually advance to specific parts of the game.  I’m also enjoying that I can change my class at any time.  Granted I have to start from scratch when I switch to a new class, but the more I build on it the better it gets.  So along with the characters leveling themselves their classes level with them.  Right now I’m running a group with a Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage.  Yes, I’m a fan of the magic casting classes.  Though I have been told the Red Mage because a little useless down the road.  I plan on playing some of the more obscure classes as I find them.  The Scholar for example.  It just sounds like fun!

To recap, I’m enjoying this Final Fantasy game more than the previous one and, most likely, more than the first.  We shall see as I progress.  As always, stay tuned!  There will be more to come!

Think Gadgets: Think Pink

030So I’m developing an obsession with pink electronics.  (See picture)  This obsession is extremely entertaining considering I absolutely hated the color pink when I was a kid.  Now, for whatever reason, I adore the color.  Could it be I’m finally accepting my girly roots?  Maybe?  Or maybe it’s because pink electronics are finally being release and they’re just so gosh darn cute!!  Either way, I can’t get enough of them.  My latest acquisition was the netbook.  She is currently out of commission due to idiocy on my part, but soon enough she will be back up and running at better than full strength!  I’m going to be upgrading the memory finally.

The DS was my first pink gadget acquisition, and probably my favorite.  If they release a pink DSi stateside I will not be able to resist.  The controller came second, then the phone, and obviously the netbook last.

These are just a few of my favorite things.  Sorry for the girly moment.  :P

Finally Over: Final Fantasy II

ff2Thank sweet baby Jesus this game is over!  I can almost guarantee that I will be saying this is my least favorite of the first six games.  The leveling system is absurd, and the story leaves much to be desired.  I could tell I was getting into it at one point, but it just couldn’t hold my attention.

I spent 24 hours and 52 minutes playing this game, and it took me 2 weeks longer than I had anticipated.  I had been planning on clearing a game a month.  I’m a little behind schedule, but still pushing through.  Final Fantasy III was started Wednesday shortly after I finished II.

I really don’t have much more to say about this game.  I’m glad I’ve completed it, but I can safely say I’ll never play it again.  As always, keep checking back!  I know the updates have been sparse, but real life gets in the way sometimes.

Will it Ever End!?: Final Fantasy II

We left you last at the destruction of the Dreadnought.  Since then we have found two ff2mapnew characters and obtained a ship!  Huzzah!  I’m roughly 17 hours in and have walked 237,094 steps.  My poor warriors must be exhausted!

I think I’m past the point of being able to update about every major story plot I pass.  Partly because I’ve advanced too far since the last update, and partly because I’m just lazy.  I will, however, give my thoughts and feelings about the game thus far.

At my current hour in the game I’m standing about halfway through.  The story has finally gotten me involved, but I can’t get past the ridiculous leveling system which is why it’s taking me so long to get through the game.  Though I must push forward!  So many better games to play!

Epic Story is Epic: Final Fantasy II

ff2dreadI made some progression over the weekend on this leg of my mission.  I’m 7 hours in now and my heroes have walked 17376 steps, and I’m finally starting to get into the story.  So my last entry left with my heroes preparing to leave for Bafsk to meet with a member of the rebellion.  There was a cave under the city which proved to be a fairly easy dungeon.  There I found a pass that would allow me onto the Emperor’s airship, the Dreadnought.  There were no boss battles so this journey was much easier than I was anticipating.  Awesome.  From Bafsk I journey back to Poft and speak with Cid to learn more about airship engines.  They run on something called Sunfire.  Nifty!  Back in Altair I speak with Princess Hilda once more.  She tells me to travel to Kas’ion and retrieve the Sunfire.

The King is getting worse by the day so Minwu leaves my party to assist with his white magic.  I go speak with Minwu one last time, and also the king.  Minwu lets me in on a little secret about the Sunfire.  It can only be carried on the Egil’s Tourch.  No normal torch will do.  Of course.  Also, Prince Scott (remember him, he died) sealed Kas’ion so the only way in is with the Goddess’s Bell.  Minwu says that only the royal family of Kas’ion knows where the bell is located.  He advises me to speak with Princess Hilda again since she had such a close relationship with Prince Scott.  And of course she knows where the bell is!  She tells me it’s hidden within the Snowfields, and that Josef should be able to guide me through the area.  So back to Salamand I go, but not before I load up on items and new spells.

In Salamand Josef tells me the only way to cross the Snowfields is in his snowcraft so he offers his assistance since we have room for one more in our party.  As a side note, Josef can beat some bitches with his fists of doom!  He says the snowcraft is hidden at Semitt Falls so we head that way.  From here we travel north then east to the Snowfields.  Battling through this dungeon was pretty easy as was the boss battle against Borghen.  The Black Knight’s underling.  Though Borghen had set a trap for us which caused us to lose Josef.  Sad days.  :(

We travel back to Salamand, minus one, to inform Josef’s family of the loss.  Then forward to Castle Kas’ionso his loss wasn’t in vain.  Castle Kas’ion had a really annoying boss, the Shrieker.  He casted a lot of spells early on so we spent a lot of time healing and casting shell.  Once he was out of MP I attacked with weapons only.  I haven’t been a big fan of too much magic use in this game.  After this battle wereceive the Sunfire to destroy the Dreadnought.  After leaving the castle we see Cid’s airship fly by and then the Dreadnought right behind it.  Uh oh.  Cid got captured by the Empire.  Back in Altair we learn that Princess Hilda was on the ship with Cid.  To rescue my heroes go.

The Dreadnought had to land for supplies.  This was my time to get on board.  We show the pass to the guard at the door and he lets us right in.  We steer clear of any other guards in the ship and only deal with the random encounters throughout.  Picked up some new loot while winding our way through the ship.  Find the Princess and Cid and make our way out.  This was much easier than I had imagined.  The boss here was difficult.  Hits hard and protects well.  I had Maria casting cure almost the entire time while everyone else did the damage.  It was a long battle, but my heroes won in the end.  Hooray!  And this is the time to destroy the ship.  We take the Sunfire and toss it in the engine.  Destroying the Dreadnought.  Victory!  A big one for the rebellion.

I’ve been attempting to finish this post nearly all week.  Real life’s been crazy.  There will most likely be another update before the end of the weekend since I’ve played a bit since this post.  It’s getting lengthy so I figured it’d be easier to split into two.  Don’t worry!  There is still plenty of game to play!  Much more to come.

Missing Friend: Final Fantasy II

ff2altairWe start our journey in some rebel hideout in a town called Altair.  My main character, Firion, finds himself alone in an empty room.  Upon leaving the room he finds two of his cohorts, Maria and Guy (Gus in the PS version).  They are still mission a companion, Leon.  Realizing this they ask Princess Hilda to be a part of the rebellion.  She refuses.  Stating they are merely children and should not be brought into such battles.  She advises them to go home and be with their families.  They inform her that they have no families.  They were all killed in the Emperor’s attach on their home.  She says, regardless, they cannot enlist in the rebellion.  Instead she sends them on a mission to find their lost friend, Leon.  This quest takes us through a small town called Gatrea where they discover the town of Fynn has been overtaken by the Emperor, but the barkeep is part of the rebellion.  The three travel forward to Fynn.  In Fynn we find Prince Scott, who’s brother Gordon resides in Altair.  Prince Scott dies in front of us, but not before giving us his ring and telling Maria he has not seen her brother, Leon.

Back in Altair I show the ring to Gordon, who tears up a bit, and Princess Hilda, who hides her sadness.  She tells my heroes how the rebellion needs a material called Mythril because it’s the only way to fight the Deadnought the Emperor is building.  She sends Minwu (Mindu in the PS verson) with us on this quest.  He has a canoe!  Hooray traveling over shallow waters!

At this point I run around a bit to build the characters and get some extra cash for better armor and weapons.  Minwu is an awesome white mage who comes prestocked with spells.  Fantastic!

We travel with Minwu to Paloom to board the ship across the ocean to Poft.  We heard rumors of a man with an airship and find him in Poft.  His name is Cid.  He says he’ll fly us anywhere for the right price.  Ugh.  We don’t need him right now so we continue on our merry way.  In Poft we hear of Salamand and how the Emperor has inslaved the men of the town to dig in the mines of Semmit Falls for him.  We find a man named Josef in Salamand who says he won’t tell us anything about where the Mythril is because he thinks we might work for the Emperor.  So we travel to Semmit Falls and release the slaves.  Among them, his daughter.  We find the Mythril deep in the mines and return to Josef in Salamand.  He tells us to take it directly to Princess Hilda.  She’ll know what to do.  In the mines we fight our first boss battle against Sergeant.  He was pretty weak, but so were my heroes.  It was an even battle.  We defeated him in the end.

Now we’ve returned to Altair and Princess Hilda.  Hilda tells me to take the Mythril to Tabul because he’ll make us some mean equipment out of it.  Unfortunately, this equipment costs a pretty penny.  More grinding for money before we head out to Bafsk to meet up with an agent of the rebellion.

This is where I am currently.  Grinding for money to build my defenses.  I’m roughly two and a half hours in.  I would love to tell you what level, but it’s not calculated that way.  I think I’m doing alright as far as that goes.  The interesting thing about this game is that it counts how many steps you’ve taken in game.  My heroes have taken 7281 steps so far.

Stay tuned.  You know there will be plenty more to come!

Time is of the Essence Update

time_clockSo I posted a few weeks ago about not having enough time to get any decent gaming in.  Of course I went on vacation shortly after I posted that.  Which means, yes, I had some time to catch up on some gaming.  Though I was in Chicago for vacation I found some time to finish Final Fantasy I and start Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure.  My schedule changed last week giving me a few extra hours after work to catch up on some gaming as well.  Last week I couldn’t shake a migraine so this week is really going to be my true test for gaming time.  I’m to the point where I’m working on my Final Fantasy mission on my lunch hour at work and whenever else  I have a few minutes to spare.  The good thing about the GBA/DS versions of the older games is the ability to save anywhere.  It’s helpful.

Back to the topic of time.  I have a rough schedule thrown together for gaming time during the work week.  I’m not including the weekend in this because it gets a little crazy sometimes while other times I have absolutely nothing going on.  Basically, any gaming time I can get through the weekend will be considered bonus time.  lol!

Here’s the schedule as it stands right now:

  •  Monday – Work 10-7.  Roughly an hour of Final Fantasy playing during this time.  These nights will most likely be spent watching a movie or other such activities with the boyfriend.  I picked up Lego Star Wars a few months ago so we’d have something to play together.  So maybe we’ll start playing that again.
  • Tuesday -Work 10-7.  Again about an hour of Final Fantasy time.  These nights are going to be my dedicated WoW time.  My roommate plays and has convinced me to re-activate my account.  We’ll see how long this lasts.
  • Wednesday – Work 10-7. More FF time.  These nights the boyfriend’s roommate is out until the next morning.  -wink wink- -nudge nudge-  No, really we’ll probably be eating and watching a movie or doing other things that couples do.  :)
  • Thursday - Work 10-7.  More FF time.  These nights are always my favorite.  We get a few friends together to play Magic the Gathering and random boardgames.  It’s a really good time.
  • Friday - Work 10-7.  One last hour of FF for the week.  These nights are hard to peg like the weekends.  Sometimes there’s stuff going on.  Other times there’s, well, nothing.  So we’ll consider Friday to be bonus time along with the rest of the weekend.

Eventually there’s going to be a monthly D&D game in there as well.  There’s also a monthly Saturday boardgame day with co-workers and their significant others.  So, it seems I do have the time to play.  Just not daily.  I think the reason it feels like there’s no time is because most everything I play needs to have a significant amount of time put into it.  Star Ocean is my example here.  I picked it up on release, and I’m only a few hours in.  I’m slacking on this one for the sake of my Final Fantasy mission.  Which is really okay.

On an unrelated note, I’m adding Final Fantasy 7-12 to my mission.  If I’m going to do this it’s not going to be half-assed.  Though it will take me longer to get through the later games since I won’t have a handheld to drag them around on.  The goal is to have 1-6 completed by the end of August.  I think this is more than manageable.  It gives me basically a month to complete the rest of the games since I’m through 1 already.  It’s going to be touch and go for the later games, but I will complete them all!  (As long as there isn’t a new shiny that comes along to distract me.)

I know I got a little off track there at the end.  Basically what I’m trying to say is it seems I’m finding more time to game.  Which is awesome and makes for a happy Cassadi.  :D
